Aishwarya Lekshmi teaches King of Kotha hook step to Sanya Malhotra at OTTplay Awards 2023. Watch video

Actresses Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sanya Malhotra won top prizes at the recently-held OTTplay Awards 2023. During a key moment at the event, the two leading talents of Indian cinema shared the stage and enthralled the crowd with their dancing skills. 

Aishwarya taught Sanya the hook step of the Kalapakkaara song from her movie King of Kotha. Despite her initial uncertainty, Aishwarya flawlessly executed the moves, even getting Sanya to join in.

Aishwarya Lekshmi took home the top award of the evening 'Best Actor Female Film - Popular Choice for her incredible work in Ammu. She played the role of a domestic abuse survivor in the movie and drove home the message highlighting the emotional and psychological exploitation of a toxic marriage. 

Speaking at the star-studded award ceremony, Aishwarya noted that playing Ammu has made her a better actor. She also revealed that many survivors of domestic violence also reached out to her following the release of Ammu.

"After Ammu, a lot of women, who were enduring abuse, going through cycles of trauma, wanting to come out of marriage but couldn't, come to meet me. This one lady who came to my door and cried to me and spoke to me. Her name is Sreelakshmi. I would like to dedicate this award to her and all of you actors here right now," she said in her victory speech.

In the meantime, Sanya Malhotra won the Best Actor in a Comic Role Award for her performance in the movie Kathal. She plays the role of a high-ranking police officer who is tasked with the responsibility of finding two jackfruits that get stolen from a politician's house. "This award couldn't have been possible without the constant support of my director Yashowardhan Mishra, Guneet Monga, Ekta Kapoor, and the Netflix team," Sanya said at the OTTplay Awards.
