The first look of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from Mani Ratnam's two part-magnum opus was launched earlier today.

Ponniyin Selvan, the adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's legendary novel series by the same name, is coming to the big screen on September 30. Helmed by filmmaker Mani Ratnam, the film brings together a dream cast comprising Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, Parthiban and Sarathkumar, to name a few. The first look of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini, which was launched earlier today, has left movie buffs in awe of the diva all over again.
Mani Ratnam, through his majestic sets, costumes crafted with intricate detail, promises an alluring period drama that recreates the Chola era to perfection. As a matter of fact, the jewellery worn by Nandini, the character played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the Queen of Pazhuvoor is handcrafted to resemble the opulence of the Chola era royal jewellery. Nandini's jewellery in the film is designed by Kishandas and Co of Hyderabad, bringing together 3 artisans/jewellery designers.
The making of the jewellery took well over six months including the inspiration, studying the history, character specification and had 18 craftsmen working on it. Nandini's jewellery comprises necklaces made in traditional Kundan setting and a wide range of accessories like maang tika, vanki, rings and jhumkas set in uncuts and precious gems including emeralds, rubies, yellow sapphires, Rakhodi inspired long necklace, with a traditional, 'close to the neck' thussi.
Pratiksha Prashant, the spokesperson of Kishandas & Co, shares it was a dream to collaborate with legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam for Ponniyin Selvan and translate his vision into reality. The film is a great canvas to showcase our craftsmanship and exquisite detail to handcrafting traditional Indian jewellery, she adds. Team Kishandas, known for their refined collection of stones, spent months researching and creating the jewels for the cast which reflected the character's personality. The stylist Eka Lakhani had conceptualised all the signature looks along with Kishandas & Co.
