Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Ponniyin Selvan: It would be great for the audiences to discover my character by themselves

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to appear in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan in the lead role alongside superstar Vikram. The ace filmmaker's magnum opus project also stars Karthi, Trisha and Jayam Ravi in major roles. Recently, the gorgeous diva debuted in Cannes 2022 with an all pink Valentino Pantsuit. Meanwhile, she was also seen talking about the developments of her upcoming major release.

During a candid chat with Film Companion, Aishwarya spoke about reuniting with Maniratnam over a decade later. "It's always special, each and every time. In the beginning, it was an absolute blessing for the student in me, who was just diving right into the cinema and getting to work with Mani Ratnam. I couldn't have asked for a better opportunity for someone who is beginning in films."

Speaking about Ponniyin Selvan, she added, "I'm blessed that I've got the chance to work with Mani so many times and now on this Ponniyin Selvan. It's his dream project. So when he came and shared that 'this is something I would like to make' I felt so privileged and blessed that he wants me to be a part of his dream. I think just to begin at that is so fulfilling and then of course the experiences have been superlative like always."

Meanwhile, when asked to reveal just a tiny bit about her character that gorgeous diva mentioned that it would be great for the audiences to discover her (Mandakini Devi, the role played by Aishwarya) by themselves.

Speaking about the idea for this major project, the talented actress added, "Ponniyin Selvan began as an idea just before Covid struck the world. And we barely got started on that. So, even getting that work done was a huge challenge and again absolute respect to Mani who has been such an amazing captain to get that going and get it done in the bubbles of work that we managed."

Ponniyin Selvan, which also has Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, R. Sarathkumar and Prakash Raj among others, is set to hit the cinemas on September 30, 2022.
