Aishwarya Sakhuja approached to play Dayaben on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, says she senses ‘urgency’

Television actress Aishwarya Sakhuja, best remembered for playing the bahu in Saas Bina Sasural, was auditioned for the role of Dayaben. The character from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah grew iconic because of Disha Vakhani but now, the makers are in search for a replacement. Aishwarya confirmed that she has auditioned for the role but hasn’t heard back yet.

The actress spoke to Times Of India and revealed that she had auditioned for the part 20-25 days back. “I can sense some kind of urgency when they are casting Dayaben’s character,” she shared.

However, Aishwarya believes she did not bag the role. She believes so because they would usually get a call within a week’s time but in her case, the communication was lost.

If Aishwarya would have stepped in Dayaben’s shoes, she would not have repeated Disha Vakhani’s style, the actress revealed. She wanted to make the character more relatable and not mad, the way Disha performed it. “Dayaben is a really mad character, and that’s completely opposite to me in real life,” the actress said.

Dayaben has not returned to Gokuldham society ever since Disha Vakhani took a break and did not return in her character. The makers have been trying to search for a replacement but they often get stuck, most likely because nobody can be the Dayaben that Disha brought to life.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah producer Asit Kumarr Modi had also promised fans that Dayaben will have a grand re-entry. However, it looks like there is still a lot of time for that.

Disha has welcomed a baby boy and thus, it looks like the actress is on a sabbatical with no plans of returning to the show anytime soon. The real question now is, will the makers be able to find their Dayaben soon?
