The late filmmaker Nishikant Kamat set the 2015 hit Drishyam in the tranquil beach state of Goa; now, Abhishek Pathak has taken over to continue the story. As Ajay Devgn unveiled the trailer for Drishyam 2 yesterday, he said they all miss the late filmmaker. He started this journey with them.

The criminal thriller centres on Devgn's character, Vijay Salgaonkar, who fights to keep his family's secret safe as Tabu's character, Meera Deshmukh, comes after seven years to further the investigation into her son's disappearance. This time, the investigating officer, played by Akshaye Khanna, is an ally to her character. Devgn says that Drishyam 2 shows the battle between two righteous people in the form of a cat-and-mouse game.

A Midday report stated that the actor told a mother whose son was killed that she was correct in her position, but his character, who would do whatever it takes to protect his family, is correct from his perspective. This is not a narrative of good versus evil. The conflicting emotions in this story are what keep it interesting.

Jeethu Joseph's 2013 Malayalam thriller of the same name, Drishyam, was an official adaptation; it appeared to have taken inspiration from Keigo Higashino's book The Devotion of Suspect X. For the sequel, Devgn and his team used Mohanlal's Drishyam 2 as a guide (2021). The approach is what distinguishes the Hindi offering from its source.

The actor and director also said that the characters are unique because the script took seven months to write. Each character now has different shades of it and the spirit of the movie is distinct from the original and other regional remakes.

After Aakrosh (2010), more than ten years ago, Devgn and Khanna are back on screen together. Abhishek came up with the casting suggestion. Working with a talented performer like Khanna, who brings out the best in him, is always enjoyable.
