Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty’s combo is one of the most loved in Bollywood and among their best collab projects, one happens to be Singham. Believe it or not, the movie was shot within three months. More so, Ajay took only a night to finish script reading. The next morning, he was already shooting for the movie.

What caused so much hurry? During an interview with The Bombay Journey, Rohit revealed that he was actually in the middle of many projects when he got the idea for Singham after watching the original Tamil film.

The filmmaker revealed that he fell in love with Suriya’s cop character and wanted to recreate it in Hindi. He then spoke about how he approached Ajay and the actor-filmmaker instantly agreed to be a part of the film. During this interaction only, the filmmaker revealed that Ajay read the narration at night and was already on the sets by morning.

Back then, Rohit was already caught up with projects like Bol Bachchan with Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay. He was also working on the big-budget movie Chennai Express featuring the superhit jodi, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.

Singham went on floors on March 4. Ajay did not join them immediately but on the next day i.e. on March 5, he read the narration and by March 6, he was already on the sets.

Within four months, the team was ready with the film. That’s correct. Singham wrapped up by June-July and was already ready for a release. The movie eventually released in theatres on July 22, 2011.

Funny enough, while Rohit was already working on Chennai Express and Bol Bachchan, both the movies released a year or two after Singham. While Bol Bachchan came out in theatres in 2012, Chennai Express took another year and released in 2013.

Singham has now come a long way from Singham’s own installments to merging with Rohit’s Cop Universe films like Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar) and Simmba (Ranveer Singh). For the uninitiated, the latest update on Singham is that a third installment of the film is in the works. The movie is expected to go on floors after Rohit wraps up Cirkus with Ranveer.
