Ajay Devgn will soon make his digital debut with Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, the official Hindi adaptation of BBC detective series Luther.
The actor, who has previously played a cop in Rohit Shetty's Singham, will be seen as DCP Rudra Veer Singh here. He recently spoke about why he was attracted to this role.
"The concept of Rudra was intriguing for me. Rudra is a smart cop who uses his impeccable mind skills to stay ahead of criminals. Rudra doesn’t feel the need to use violence as a weapon. Instead, he is analytical and puts details first. Rudra is suave, nuanced and mindful and that’s why I was drawn to him in the first place," said Devgn, according to DNA.
The makers have described Rudra, set in Mumbai as an "engaging and dark" take on Luther. Devgn's character will be seen delving into the psyche of highly-intelligent criminals to track them down, often at grave personal cost. He also forms an unlikely friendship with Aaliyah "a genius sociopath."
Devgn has previously described his character as a "multi-faceted personality", and the show as something that Indian viewers have not experienced from homegrown content.
Also part of the cast are Raashi Khanna, Esha Deol, Atul Kulkarni, Ashwini Kalsekar, Tarun Gahlot, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Satyadeep Misra.
The six-episode series is helmed by director Rajesh Mapuskar. Rudra is by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India.
Rudra will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on March 4.
