The action-comedy Son of Sardaar 2, which is the sequel to the 2012 film, will now be released one week later than originally planned. The film, which stars Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur, will now open on August 1 instead of July 25. No official explanation for the postponement has been revealed, but the decision comes as Saiyaara continues to do well at the box office.
Kubbra Sait, who plays a pivotal role in the film, told Mid Day that she was pleased with the new release date even though she didn't know why it was changed. The actor said, "Earlier it was to be released on July 25; now it’s on August 1. My birthday is on July 27. Either way, it’s a birthday gift for me. I don’t have any information about the reason for the delay. I’m happy it’s releasing on August 1. It’s a good thing that people are going back to the theatres. So, if one film is creating space for our film, that’s fantastic."
Known for her dramatic appearances in Deva, Shehar Lakhot (2023), and The Trial (2023), Sait's Son of Sardaar 2 is her first feature comedy film under the directorial effort of Vijay Singh Arora. She remarked that her first experience working in a comedy was invigorating.
According to the actor, "I’ve heard every actor say that comedy is a very difficult genre. So, I went in with that pressure. But everything happened smoothly. The script was tight, my colleagues were fun, and we shared our lives with each other over the 45-day stretch in Scotland."
Some big changes have occurred in the film's production, such as casting modifications. Sanjay Dutt, who was an integral part of the original, was supposed to return, but Ravi Kishen ended up replacing him. The film's original cast, including Vijay Raaz, was cut after he was accused of engaging in inappropriate behaviour while filming.
Considering how the set ambiance was consistent throughout, Sait gave thanks to Devgn's poise as both the performer and the producer. She said, "When you see Ajay Devgn having a sense of calm despite the changes, it changes so much in the atmosphere. He set the stage by being a great example."
Sait is excited to see how people react to her comedy debut in Son of Sardaar 2 when it opens in theatres on August 1.
