A huge fire broke out on the sets of Tovino Thomas-starrer Ajayante Randam Moshanam in Cheemeni, Kasargode, a few days ago, disrupting the team’s plans of completing the final few shots in time.

The fire apparently completely damaged a huge set piece that was erected as part of the big-budget period film, which has portions set in the 1900s, 1950s and 1990s. Talking to OTTplay, the film’s director Jithin Lal tells us, “No one was hurt. We were shooting that day. But the fire started during the break. Most of the shoot was over by then. But we still had a few patchworks to be shot on the sets that were destroyed by the fire. We had to resort to plan B for those portions because it was not possible to recreate the sets again. Thankfully, the fire didn’t spread to another massive set of a temple that was erected.”

The team has been shooting for the best part of the past six months. “We had planned to wrap up the movie in 125 days, but we will complete it in 118 days. We started shooting on October 11 and should be done by March 11,” said the filmmaker, who is making his directorial debut with the 3D action-adventure film that will also be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

Apart from Tovino starring in a triple role for the first time in his career, the movie also has Krithi Shetty, Aishwarya Rajesh, Surabhi Lakshmi, Basil Joseph, Harish Uthaman, Rohini and Aju Varghese. On the movie’s release plans, Jithin says, “The plan is to release it in theatres by the end of this year. The 3D rendering and VFX will take time.”

Meanwhile, Tovino has joined the sets of Darwin Kuriakose’s police drama, Anveshippin Kandethum, in Kottayam.
