The octogenarian has been unwell for a few years now and breathed his last today. Ajith is said to be extremely close to his father and he has always maintained that family comes first. Condolences have been pouring for the Thunivu actor from across the world.

On the work front, the actor is set to begin work on his next, which is tentatively being referred to as AK62. After Vignesh Shivan's ouster from the film, there has been no official confirmation on who will direct Ajith's next, though Kalagathalaivan Magizh Thirumeni's name is on the top of the list. The film will be bankrolled by Lyca Productions. The shoot for the film was supposed to begin by the end of 2022, according to the official press release and Anirudh was roped in as the film's music composer. It is said that the makers were quite unhappy with the script after the long pre-production time.

Ajith's manager Suresh Chandra had announced the same on his social media handle. He wrote, "Mr Ajith Kumar to start 2nd leg of world motorcycling tour post completion of  his project with Lyca production n wld like it to be for a cause n term it as #RIDEformutualrespect (sic)."

Ajith was last seen in H Vinoth's Thunivu, in which he played a bank robber. The heavy-duty action entertainer had Manju Warrier, Samuthirakani, John Kokken and Veera as part of the star cast and was bankrolled by Boney Kapoor. The film, which hit screens on Pongal alongside Vijay's Varisu, set the cash registers ringing at the box office. Thunivu is currently streaming on Netflix and has become one of the most streamed movies of the year ever since its digital release.
