Ahead of Vishu/Baishaki and then later, the Easter weekend, April 10 was a busy day at the box office in Bengaluru. Malayalam had 3 films out (Bazooka, Alappuzha Gymkhaana and Maranamass), Kannada 2 of 3 of the week (Vaamana and Vidyapati), Tamil (Good Bad Ugly), Telugu (Jack) and Hindi 1 (Jaat) each.
And topping the list was the Tamil release – Thala Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly. The film skipped early morning shows in the city, beginning at 8.30 am only, and yet, with a tad under 650 shows (which is the third highest for the actor, after Vidaamuyarchi and Valimai), recorded a Day 1 gross of Rs 3.5 crore, recording good footfalls for all shows.
Trackers estimate that the film missed out on getting the biggest opener of 2025 status, by not having early morning shows. The film, reportedly had 123 fast filling/sold out 8.30 am shows, with a similar number recorded for the evening and night shows. While there was a dip on Day 2, despite being a working day, Good Bad Ugly had some 50 odd fast filling shows.
Giving the film some competition at the Bengaluru box office is the Naslen-starrer Alappuzha Gymkhaana, which, not only got more screens by day 2, but also maintained good momentum in terms of footfalls. The weekend is expected get better for both films. Good Bad Ugly has, reportedly made Rs 50 crore gross on Day 1, nearly two-thirds of that coming from Tamil Nadu. This is, however, estimated to be only 22% recovery for the makers.
Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly is Ajith’s second release for the year, after the much-delayed Vidaamuyarchi. The film has been described as perfect fan service – a movie that’s loud, extravagant and entertaining. It revolves around a reformed gangster, who is forced to return to his life of violence, after his son is jailed for a crime he didn’t commit.
