In 1994, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta started their journey with Nagpanchami. Exactly 30 years on, the duo is all set with their 50th film together. Directed by Kaushik Ganguly, Ajogyo will be released on June 7 and it also features Silajit Majumder, Ambarish Bhattacharya, and Lily Chakraborty. Evidently, the focus is on the magic of the hit pair of Prosenjit and Rituparna.
While talking to OTTplay, Rituparna said, “We sustained for 15 years. How many pairs do we know that could run for so long?” Prosenjit pointed out that their journey is nothing short of history. “Not that we worked in 50 films but we sustained for so many years… We are proud of this pair, yes. But it is a pride even for the industry we work in. It is an achievement for Bengali cinema that it has let us work on 50 films. It is a celebration for our audience,” the actor said.
Talking about the secret of the hit ‘chemistry’, Rituparna said that it is a blend between their equation and responsibility. Over the years, this frenzy was created. That’s because our films have become very successful. The directors and producers thought we were dependable pairs on whom they could invest their money. That helped us to grow. I heard producers calling us ‘Lakshmi pair’. We used to sign films in a row. Directors and producers used to squabble to sign us in their films. And all these used to happen because they could bank on us,” she said.
