We had told you Ajith Kumar was joining hands with filmmaker Vignesh Shivan (who's basking in the success of Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal) for his 62nd film. We hear that this untitled project, bankrolled by Lyca Productions, will go on floors in October. Unconfirmed reports, further, state that the actor will start shooting for AK 62, even before the release of AK 61, which is expected to hit the screens this Diwali. However, we await an official confirmation.
AK 61 (touted to be a heist thriller), directed by H Vinoth, is likely to wrap up by August. After taking a month's break, it looks like Ajith will join the sets of AK 62. Although we have little information on the same, for now, we know that Vignesh Shivn is working on the final draft of the script, which will be locked soon. It's rumoured that the shooting of AK 62 will be finished in 35-40 days.
AK 62 (touted to be a rural drama) has music scored by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his fourth collaboration with the actor. According to Lyca Productions' official statement, the film will be released in mid-2023. Other details about the cast and crew of the film are yet to be made official.
As per the report published by the Times of India, there are rumours that Ajith is likely to play an organic farmer from Tirunelveli. The storyline has him waging a battle with corporate food chains over his vision of promoting healthy food. The same was doing the rounds on the Internet.
Ajith's recent release was H Vinoth's Valimai (streaming on Zee5). The actor's focus is completely on his 61st film. A huge set of Chennai Mount Road was erected in a studio in Hyderabad, where a major chunk of the film was shot. The key component of the setup is a massive bank. Ajith is said to be playing a dual role as both hero and villain, for which he has been sporting a stylish beard. AK 61 has Samuthirakani, Manju Warrier, John Kokken, Veera and Mahanadhi Shankar in important roles. This marks Shankar’s collaboration with Ajith Kumar, after two decades. Famous for his roles as a villain, he was also seen in Dheena. In fact, Shankar was the first one to fondly call Ajith, ‘Thala’, on screen, which, eventually, became a rage.
AK 61 has music by Ghibran. According to Boney Kapoor, the film's producer, the team has shot 35 days and plans to end the shoot by August. He says AK 61 should be released on October 24, if all goes well.
