Akhanda 2: After postponement, Netflix locks a new date for the Balakrishna-Boyapati starrer?

Akhanda 2 was postponed hours before the premiere shows were set to be aired. The Madras High Court gave a stay order on the film’s release, as the makers had to settle massive debts to various parties related to their previous films.

This came as a massive insult to the star image of Balakrishna, who is also in the ruling party of Andhra and is himself a three-time MLA. All this did not stop the film from getting stalled.

Ever since this happened, everyone wants to know when the film will be released in the first place. One of the sources close to the unit has revealed to us that a very important meeting is going to happen in Hyderabad tomorrow, and the core team, along with a few industry heads, will decide the fate of Akhanda 2.

On the other hand, the hero Balakrishna and director Boyapati Sreenu have decided to let go of a part of their remuneration to ensure the film has a smooth release and clears its financial hurdles. In all this, the makers have decided on three dates: December 12, 19, and 25, 2025.

The source close to the unit has revealed to us that Netflix, which has bagged the digital rights to the film, has decided on a December 25, 2025 release and has informed the makers to follow suit. 

This is a festive season, and Netflix wants the star-hero film to cash in on the holiday period. But the makers do not want to go so far and are looking at a December 12, 2025 release.

All this will be discussed in tomorrow’s meeting, but the source adds that Netflix will have a say and might push for Akhanda 2 to release on December 25, 2025. Already, a few medium-budget films like Dhandoora, Patang, Shambhala, and Champion have blocked the dates. If Akhanda 2 comes in, there will be a major shuffle.
