Many people may have many theories to share about the success of Balakrishna, Pragya Jaiswal starrer Akhanda at the box office, but all will unanimously agree that music by S Thaman was quite crucial to its victorious theatrical run. Songs like Jai Balayya, the title track and Amma have been integrated seamlessly into the story and do their bit in contributing to the near-perfect big-screen experience. The video song of Amma from the film was released by the team earlier this week.
The number Amma in Akhanda elaborates on the conflict between a mother and a son, who're separated at birth and can't unite as a family despite meeting each other many years later. The mother, played by Viji Chandrasekhar, has two sons (twins) in the film. While one of them turns out to be a farmer and a do-gooder in a village, the other child is hidden from the mother by the father himself.
The song is about the mother realising that the other son has turned out to be an aghora but can't unite with him owing to the strict traditions, principles followed by the cult group. The mother can't decide if she's happy to realise the presence of her other son or be sad that she can't shower her love upon him. The situation is just perfect for an emotional number and it's not surprising to see how well it has clicked with music lovers.
Akhanda also features Srikanth, Purnaa, Jagapathi Babu, popular Kannada actor Ganesh, to name a few. The film was bankrolled by Miryala Ravinder Reddy under Dwaraka Creations. Despite releasing in a non-festive reason, Akhanda turned out to be a money spinner at theatres across the globe bringing joy to the industry that was desperately looking to bounce back after the second wave of the pandemic. The mass entertainer is set to release digitally on Disney+ Hotstar this weekend.
