On 3rd February, Netflix hosted a grand event to announce their exciting slate of upcoming releases including films and web series. One of them has to be Akka starring the talented duo of Radhika Apte and Keerthy Suresh. The first look was dropped on social media and it is too good to be missed. The upcoming web series hails from Yash Raj Films’ streaming production arm YRF Entertainment. Here's all you need to know!
Akka first look is out
The first look video begins with a powerful Keerthy Suresh entering a room full of people with her girl gang. Her raw and rustic look has only added intrigue to the series. Radhika Apte is then introduced who is seen sitting on a big chair in her office. The video also has glimpses of gold bars, guns, and intense sequences. As per Netflix, it is set in the 1980s matriarchal society of the fictional city of Pernuru, South India.
The video states, "This year power has a new name, Akka." The series revolves around gangster queens whose matriarchal rule is challenged when an outsider brings an unseen threat, spiraling the all-powerful sisterhood into a chaos storm of violence and
survival. It will showcase Keerthy and Radhika's clashing for power. This in itself is quite interesting. Have a look at the first look video of Akka:

Keerthy Suresh, who recently made her big Bollywood debut with Baby John alongside Varun Dhawan, was seen gracing the event in Mumbai. She was seen thanking YRF for making this series happen. She added, "Akka is an entirely different world that you wouldn't have seen before. It is about a lot of powerful women coming together." On the other hand, Radhika couldn't attend the event since she recently delivered her first baby.
A video of hers was played at the event. She was heard saying, "Akka is a show of fierce, and powerful women at its center. Big shoutout to my partners-in-crime, Keerthy, and Dharmaraj (director). We had a great time filming for the show." Radhika also called Akka a 'game changer'.
The series is being directed by debutant Dharmaraj Shetty. It will be released this year on Netflix. The release date is yet to be announced.
