With some incredible blockbusters streaming on OTT platforms after making their rounds at the Box Office, filmmakers seem to have adapted to digital streaming. Though movies like Krack, Uppena, and Jathi Ratnalu reeled in earnings through their release in theatres, many were not able to secure an audience.
Telugu star Nagarjuna’s Wild Dog was released earlier this month to decent reviews. The film however failed to make its mark at the Box Office. Earlier reports claimed that Wild Dog was sold to streaming-giant Netflix, but the filmmakers decided to release the movie in theatres.
Wild Dog, a Telugu language action-thriller film, follows the tale of unsung heroes in terrorist attacks in the nation, like the Gokul Chat bomb blast in 2007. The film is a dramatic representation of events and the investigations are depicted through the NIA’s perspective.
This Nagarjuna, Dia Mirza, Saiyami Kher, and Atul Kulkarni starrer was directed by Ashishor Solomon. The film released in theatres on April 2.
Though originally slated for direct-to-OTT platform release, Wild Dog was chosen for a theatrical release by the filmmakers. This was due to the restrictions on theatres getting relaxed. The filmmakers pulled out from the reported Netflix deal soon. But as COVID-19 cases surged, restrictions were put back in place.
Unexpectedly ending its theatrical release in the coming weeks, Wild Dog has been in the news for making an OTT release. Previously, the filmmakers had stated that the film will be available for OTT release 40-45 days after its theatrical release. If this holds true, then audiences should be able to enjoy Wild Dog on digital streaming services from mid-May.
Some reports also state that the film is due for release in the first week of June. The filmmakers are yet to issue a clarification or an official announcement on the same.
