A huge setback has officially been identified, and the immediate filming schedule for the much-anticipated sequel to the 2006 comedy smash hit Bhagam Bhag has been cancelled. The film has been indefinitely halted after producer Ektaa R. Kapoor took legal action against filmmaker Raaj Shaandilyaa. It was supposed to start filming on March 2, 2026, and stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Manoj Bajpayee.
Expectations were high that the project, which had a massive 25-day shooting schedule in Lucknow and around India, would bring back the humorous chemistry of Kumar and Rawal and introduce Bajpayee in a substantial capacity. Unfortunately, producers Ashwin Varde and Cape of Good Films had to cancel the shoot right before filming began due to legal issues with Shaandilyaa's contractual duties.
The feud started because Shaandilyaa and Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms had a long-standing professional arrangement. Reportedly, the relationship between them has soured due to unresolved contractual issues; Kapoor produced the popular Dream Girl films under Shaandilyaa's direction.

A source informed Bollywood Hungama that she has taken the filmmaker to court for allegedly breaching their contract. Despite having committed to a three-film pact with Kapoor, Shaandilyaa has gone on to work on two films produced by companies other than hers. Since he did not obtain an NOC from Kapoor or return the fee paid to oversee the third project she was involved in, his behaviour has irked her.
A legal notice was filed to the director and producers of the film to halt its production since the dispute pertains to a violation of exclusivity and financial advances.
The production team determined that continuing forward was not practicable at this time due to the possibility of a drawn-out legal struggle that could lead to the freezing of the film's assets. Producers Ashwin Varde and Cape of Good Films have stated their intention to address the matter, but in the meanwhile, they have suspended all logistical operations.
"Seeing the complexities in the project, the producers decided to cancel the schedule until the legal issues are resolved. The film has, for now, gone on the back burner and could be revived with a new director in the months to come. At the moment, all the stakeholders are trying to resolve issues," the source stated.
The sudden cancellation has left the main cast uncertain about their future plans. The turn of events reportedly caught Kumar off guard, given his demanding and packed schedule. The original ensemble's reconvening is now uncertain, as the March calendar is presently vacant and the actors have been released to pursue other projects.
"It was a 25-day schedule in March, and all the actor dates are now released. In fact, there looms a real uncertainty on the future of Bhagam Bhag 2, as a long delay could also put the project on the backburner, as all actors have already committed to multiple other films from June onwards. Akshay was caught unaware of the legal hassles just days before the film's shoot," the source added.
The original Priyadarshan-directed Bhagam Bhag is still a staple in Hindi comedies nowadays. Both the market and fans were very excited about the possibility of a sequel. But the idea is still in the air because of the ongoing legal dispute between Shaandilyaa and Kapoor. Industry analysts predict that the project would be delayed by at least a year due to the busy schedules of its main actors unless a resolution is swiftly achieved or a new director is chosen.
