Akshay Kumar breaks the superstar notion at Selfiee trailer launch: I still sleep on a mattress on the floor

Akshay Kumar and Ramraan Hashmi starrer Selfiee's trailer was launched today at an event in Mumbai. The movie, a 2019 remake of the comedy-drama Driving Licence in Malayalam, follows a Bollywood celebrity as he tries to obtain his driver's licence from an RTO official who claims to be his biggest fan. His love for the celebrity, though, changes.

Akshay speaks about playing a superstar in the movie while attending the event. He asserted that Bollywood actors are only people like everyone else. He mentioned the modest life he still leads. He said, “It has been 32 years in the industry for me. But I am still the Chandni Chowk boy from Delhi. We, stars, are as human as the rest of the country and our fans.”

He continued by saying that his way of living is very different from that of a typical celebrity. "I eat the same roti, chaawal, and daal. I have an early bedtime and an early morning. I'm not a superstar, therefore I wouldn't put myself on a pedestal. Main hamesha apne aap ko neeche hi rakha hai. I still sleep on a mattress on the floor. It’s my habit,” he added. Akshay also remarked, “The film is dedicated to all the fans of all the celebrities in the world. We are alive because of our fans nahi toh humaari koi aukaat nahi hai.”

The actor went on to express his desire for the return of the multi-starrer and two-hero movie trend. "We should have two- and three-hero films, he said. Such movies used to be produced frequently in the past, but not as frequently these days. However, I'm very happy that I took a selfie with Emraan and that I'm currently filming Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Tiger Shroff and also a film with Prithviraj Sukumaran. I'll be working on two to three multi-hero movies. The more of these movies produced, the better."

Apart from Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, Nushratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty also star in Selfiee. In collaboration with Dharma Productions, Prithviraj Productions, Magic Frames, and Cape Of Good Films, it is presented by Star Studios. Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Supriya Menon, Karan, Prithviraj, Apoorva Mehta, and Listin Stephen are the producers of the movie. On February 24, 2023, Selfiee is scheduled for theatrical release.
