Akshay Kumar kick-started his new project Raksha Bandhan, which is directed by Aanand L Rai, and the Bollywood star dedicated the movie to his sister.
The Khiladi star announced the commencement of his highly-anticipated film today with a tweet that read, “Growing up my sister, Alka was my first friend. It was the most effortless friendship. @aanandlrai's #RakshaBandhan is a dedication to her and a celebration of that special bond. Day one of the shoot today, need your love and best wishes.”

The film, as the title Raksha Bandhan suggests, is based on sibling relationships, with Akshay’s character having four sisters in the film. It also has Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role with Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, Sadia Khateeb and Smrithi Srikanth as the four sisters.
Meanwhile, Akshay’s Bell Bottom, which is set to hit theatres on July 27, also has multiple heroines with Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi and Lara Dutta as part of the cast. The actor has also completed several films that haven’t got release dates yet due to the pandemic including Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi opposite Katrina Kaif, Bachchan Pandey that also has Kriti Sanon and Arshad Warsi and Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re.
Akshay made his OTT debut in 2020 with the horror-comedy Laxmii. He has also completed a schedule of Abhishek Sharma’s Ram Setu with Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha.
