IPL 2024 commenced in Chennai’s M A Chidambaram stadium. Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff were the special guests at the opening ceremony. The duo, who are the latest to show brotherhood (or the lack of it as per their videos?), were promoting their upcoming film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. While the original one was directed by David Dhawan and featured Amitabh Bachchan-Govinda in the lead roles, this one is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The film’s teaser was also unveiled during the ceremony.
Akshay’s video
The actor shared the entry scenes from the event. This includes him entering hanging mid-air. The same had left netizens in awe as it happened. This is to be noted that Akshay is aged 56.
Chilling like a villain
‘Bad Boys’ and ‘Chilling like a villain’ were some phrases used in the video. While neither Akshay nor Tiger were any of that last night, they definitely took the opening ceremony to new heights.
Hoisting the Indian flag
The two were seen with the Indian flag throughout the ground. They hoisted the flag and gave the green signal for the biggest event of cricket to commence. The video ended with Tiger still waving the flag and Akshay folding hands as fans shower love on the duo.
Others at the opening ceremony
Apart from Akshay and Tiger, AR Rahman and Sonu Nigam graced IPL 2024 opening ceremony. The first match, right after the ceremony, was between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). While the opening ceremony was at 6.30 pm, the first match commenced at 8 pm. CSK won the first match, ironically in Chennai.
Currently, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) are competing on the field. Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals were fighting it out previously, with Punjab winning the match. The matches can be streamed on JioCinema.
