The Cannes International Film Festival is arguably the most prestigious in the world. India has been selected as the official ‘country of honour’ at the Marche 'Du Films', also known as the Cannes Film Market, and several Indian stars have been invited to walk the red carpet at the event. Akshay Kumar, who was expected to attend the event, has now confirmed that he will sit it out.
The actor took to Twitter to confirm that he would miss out on the event after contracting the coronavirus. "Was really looking forward to rooting for our cinema at the India Pavilion at #Cannes2022, but have sadly tested positive for Covid. Will rest it out. Loads of best wishes to you and your entire team, @ianuragthakur. Will miss being there," he wrote.
Pooja Hegde, Helly Shah, R Madhavan, Tamannaah Bhatia, AR Rahman, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are among some of the stars who are expected to attend this year’s events in France.
This is the second time the Bollywood superstar has contracted the virus, after testing positive back in April 2021. The actor had taken to Twitter to announce that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and that he had isolated himself according to protocol.
Akshay is currently in Wai, getting ready for the filming of his next, co-starring Radhika Madan. It is reported that he was supposed to wrap up a month-long schedule there before moving to Bhor for another. It remains to be seen how this will be affected after the actor tests positive.
Akshay Kumar is currently awaiting the release of the historic war drama, Prithviraj. The movie is directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi and marks the acting debut of the former Miss World, Manushi Chhillar. The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on June 3, 2022.
