These aren't great times for Akshay Kumar in Hindi cinema. While his magic has failed to work at the box office over the last few months, not many are pleased or enthused about the star's upcoming releases either. Adding insult to injury, his ambitious film, Ram Setu, is facing legal trouble from BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. The politician has filed a lawsuit against Ram Setu and is set to seek compensation from the makers.
Subramanian Swamy cited that Ram Setu is indulging in alleged falsification in the portrayal of the Ram Setu issue. Over a tweet, he confirmed that his associate and advocate Satya Sabharwali had finalised the lawsuit seeking compensation. Swamy mentioned that he would be suing Akshay and Karma Media for the aforementioned reason. Taking a dig at Akshay's Canadian citizenship, Swamy said that the actor could be arrested even from his adopted country if the need arose.
Ram Setu is helmed by Abhishek Sharma and features Akshay Kumar as an archaeologist alongside Jacqueline Fernandez, Satya Dev and Nushratt Bharuchha. This is Telugu actor Satya Dev's first major release in Hindi cinema. The film tells the story of the pivotal character in pursuit of the truth about the history of the Ram Setu bridge between India and Sri Lanka. The bridge, as per the epic Ramayana, was built by an army of monkeys in helping Lord Rama rescue Sita (who was abducted by Ravana).
Ram Setu is jointly produced by Aruna Bhatia and Vikram Malhotra under Akshay's home banner Cape of Good Films, Abundantia Entertainment, Lyca Productions and Amazon Prime Video. Akshay Kumar's upcoming releases include Rakshabandhan, Selfie alongside Emraan Hashmi, Mission Cindrella. His last theatrical release was Prithviraj, directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
