Touted to be one of the most ambitious Indian original series on Netflix, Rakt Bramhand has not yet been greenlit. In February of this year, Mid-Day stated that Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, the show's creators, had halted production on the fantasy drama due to an unforeseen setback. Since then, the details surrounding the project have been vague at best, and rumours have circulated within the industry that it may be postponed or perhaps scrapped altogether.
Ali Fazal, who co-stars with Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Aditya Roy Kapur in the series, has now revealed that not even he has any news on the show's current state. The actor told the tabloid, "I honestly don’t know what’s happening on that one. I wish I knew."
With its ambitious scope and genre-bending storyline, Rakt Bramhand (helmed by Rahi Anil Barve, director of Tumbbad) has been the subject of intense anticipation since its August 2024 filming began. Many were hoping that this supposedly epic fantasy drama about rival kingdoms would revolutionise Indian storytelling on OTT platforms.
According to Fazal, his co-star Aditya Roy Kapur is equally eager to get back to work on the project, so he acknowledged that the series was on pause. He went on to say, "Aditya and I were doing it together. We met now again during Metro... In Dino promotions. It has been a couple of months since I last shot for it. Then I had to cut my hair because I had to shoot for something else."
The long scheduling gap appears to have affected the actors' physical continuity, making it unlikely that production will resume soon. People are wondering what will happen to Rakt Bramhand now that the cast and crew have been silent for so long, even if Netflix hasn't said anything officially.
As for Fazal, he has already started working on something else. Ranga Billa is the name of the web series he's currently shooting, and it also stars Sonali Bendre in the lead role.
