2023 has been a special year for filmmaker Karan Johar. This year his directorial – ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ – became a smashing hit at the box office. Featuring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in titular roles, this romantic drama minted over Rs 350 crores globally. While the filmmaker continues to garner appreciation for his latest directorial, he has revealed recently that he considers Alia and Ranveer’s onscreen chemistry equivalent to that in Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s era. Here is why.
Karan Johar has something to say about the Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol era
In a chat with Film Companion recently, Karan Johar equated superstars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh's onscreen chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s era.
He said, “Ranveer and Alia have such terrific conversational chemistry. It's like they have this telepathic connection—leaving gaps, speaking over each other—it's like watching a symphony of emotions on screen. The last time I witnessed this magic was with Shah Rukh and Kajol back in '98 and 2001."
This statement by Karan comes 2 months after ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ completed 25 years since its inception. With this blockbuster film, Karan made a debut as a filmmaker in the industry. The film – featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles, continues to win the hearts of people even today.
Additionally, this comment by Karan comes just a week before the 22nd anniversary of ‘Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham...’. This family drama, directed by Karan Johar, was also a blockbuster in the year 2001 and featured Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in key roles.
Koffee with Karan Season 8
In the ongoing season of Koffee with Karan Season 8, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and Kajol graced the show – each in separate episodes – and thanked Karan for his contribution to the film industry. Shah Rukh Khan has not graced the show this season due to reasons best known to him.
