Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi becomes most-viewed Indian film on Netflix; Rajamouli’s RRR also a big favourite

The growth and presence of OTT platforms in the country has never been as evident as it is today. With OTT becoming a favoured destination of Indian audiences to catch quality content, Netflix has now announced that four Indian films have made it to the global top 10 list for the week. 

Accroding to The Indian Express, Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, Jana Gana Mana and Jersey are the latest Indian films to be on the global top 10 list. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s biographical drama starring Alia Bhatt in the lead is also the film which has spent the weeks on the top 10 list from India, having been on it for six weeks. It also clocked 50.6 million viewership hours on Netlfix. 

Mimi and Sooryavanshi are the movies that take second spot in this record, with five weeks each. Taapsee Pannu’s Haseen Dillruba and the Malayalam superhero flick Minnal Murali spent four weeks on the top 10 list. Dhamaka and Meenakshi Sundareshwar both spent three weeks in the top 10 list as well. 

Director S.S. Rajamouli’s period action drama RRR, which minted around Rs. 1200 crore at the box office, has also become a streaming success. The movie’s Hindi version, which is available on Netflix, saw a jump of 50% in the US following its release. The movie also made it to the top 10 list of 57 countries around the globe. 

Kangana Ranaut has faced back to back box office failures in Thalaivii and Dhaakad. The former, which has already made its digital debut, also failed to impress fans on Netflix. The movie got to the top 10 list only twice, making approximately 5.2 million viewing hours. The movie however, is also available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. 

Interceptor, RRR, Jana Gana Mana, Jersey, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Hustle, RAW, Toolsidas Junior and Sonic The Hedgehog are the movies in the top 10 list in India today.
