Alien: Romulus has finally received a release date. Earlier slated for an OTT release on Hulu and Disney+, the film will now be released in theatres, thanks to its promising production as of now. Directed by Fede Álvarez of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe fame. Alien: Romulus will serve as an interquel between Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) and James Cameron’s Aliens (1986), two iconic editions of the mega-franchise. The film will hit global theatres this autumn.
Alien: Romulus will be available in international theatres on August 16, 2024. The film has not released any trailers yet but has teased viewers with a brief clip of the upcoming sci-fi horror fest. The film’s log line, though not very descriptive, offers enough insight into the plot. Also, since the events will be set between the first and second films, we hope to see some cool Easter eggs that connect the Alien-verse together.
Alien: Romulus will follow a group of young space colonisers on a distant world who will find themselves in confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe. Since Aliens will see the destruction of a distant, established space colony, we can expect these youngsters to be connected in some way, as they will be encountering the same species of facehuggers with highly corrosive, acidic blood, the Xenomorphs.
Alien: Romulus’s director, Fede, promises to keep the vibe and fear factor of the original Alien film. His version might be the most promising one yet, as not only is he involved at every level of production, from VFX to editing, but he will also be fusing modern technology with the Alien-verse storylines, thereby connecting the plot points without overlining them. Also, his own touch to the film’s style of execution might just add the right amount of kick to the horror and thrill.
Alien: Romulus stars a young, ensemble featuring the likes of Priscilla actress Cailee Spaeny, Rye Lane actor David Jonsson, Shadow and Bone’s Archie Renaux, Sweet Girl fame Isabela Merced, Tell Me Everything star Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu in prominent roles.
