Allu Arjun, in Delhi, scripted history by being the first Telugu actor to have won a National Award under the Best Actor (Male) in the industry. He had bagged the honour for his pathbreaking performance in the action entertainer Pushpa, directed by Sukumar, in which he’d played a sandalwood smuggler. The multilingual film, produced by Mythri Movie Makers, released in December 2021.

The actor wasn’t the only person in the team of Pushpa to have won a National Award. He had company in the form of the film’s composer Devi Sri Prasad as well. Pushpa was one of the biggest musical hits in the career of the music director - some of popular numbers in the celebrated album include Oo Antava, Saami Saami, Srivalli, Eyy Bidda Idhi Naa Adda.

Expressing his happiness on winning the National Award with Devi Sri Prasad, Allu Arjun, on Instagram, had posted, “Very memorable to receive it along with my childhood friend , my music director, my well wisher & my cheer leader . Soo glad we received our first together . From Chennai roads to Delhi auditorium… it’s a 25 years journey. #nationalaward #nationalawards2023”

Post the National Awards presentation ceremony, all the award recipients came together for a bash yesterday night. The other winners include singer Kaala Bhairava, composer MM Keeravaani, directors SS Rajamouli, Buchi Babu Sana, Mythri Movie Makers’ producers Y Ravi Shankar, Naveen Yerneni, Srinivas Mohan, lyricist Chandrabose and stunt director King Solomon.

Pushpa: The Rise, Allu Arjun and Devi Sri Prasad’s national award winning film, out on Amazon Prime Video, also starred Rashmika Mandanna, Daali Dhananjaya, Rao Ramesh, Fahadh Faasil, Sunil, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Jagadeesh Prathap Bhandari, Ajay Ghosh, Raj Tirandasu, to name a few. The sequel to the film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, will hit screens worldwide on August 15, 2024.
