After almost two years of completing its shoot, Mohanlal and director Shaji Kailas’ Alone will hit theatres in January 2023. The filmmaker, who last year had said that the film will be a straight-to-OTT release, recently confirmed that Alone will hit theatres now on January 26, 2023.

What’s special about the release date is that this was the release date of Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas’ biggest hit, Narasimham, which was also produced by Aashirvad Cinemas. Narasimham, which released on January 26, 2000, was also the first production venture of Antony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas, which has since then gone on to produce 35 movies including Drishyam, Ravanaprabhu, Lucifer and Odiyan.

Aashirvad Cinemas also has their biggest production venture yet – Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure – set to hit theatres in 2023. The 3D children’s fantasy, which will mark Mohanlal’s directorial debut, has wrapped up its principal photography and is currently eyeing a March 2023 release. Mohanlal plays a 400-year-old warrior-ghost who guards a treasure for the rightful heir of Vasco Da Gama in the movie, which also has Guru Somasundaram in a pivotal role.

The production company also has the much-anticipated Empuraan, the sequel of their biggest hit ever Lucifer, set to go on floors later next year. The movie is rumoured to be a co-production with Prithviraj Productions and another major production company. Prithviraj Sukumaran, who will be helming the movie, recently said that the team is currently busy with the recce of the film and is expected to start shooting the movie by mid of 2023.

Meanwhile, Alone is a lockdown-thriller that has only Mohanlal as part of its cast. Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier and Siddique have lent their voices for characters that will be heard only through phone calls in the film, scripted by Rajesh Jayaraman. The movie has the superstar essaying the role of Kalidasan, an UN official, who gets stranded in Kerala after a nationwide lockdown is announced.
