Mohanlal will be looking to kick off 2023 with a bang, with the Shaji Kailas’ directorial
The odds weren’t quite in Mohanlal’s favour in 2022, but the actor will be hoping to change that next year. He will kick off 2023 with Alone, his much-anticipated collaboration with Shaji Kailas.
The movie, which had completed shoot back in 2020, has taken some while for its makers to finalise the release. They had initially mulled the option of releasing it on OTT and the film’s director Shaji even confirmed that the movie will head to a streaming platform. However, then there was a 180 degree turn with the makers favouring a theatrical release.
While Alone was never made for the theatres, the team has worked on it to ensure that it has enough elements for the audience to enjoy the movie on the big screen. In an earlier interview with OTTPlay, Mohanlal had told us that the film is a lockdown thriller, set during the pandemic.
Mohanlal essays the character named Kalidas, who is reported to be an UN official, and becomes stranded when the nationwide lockdown in announced. It’s also a single-actor film, with only Mohanlal.
“When I heard the story of Alone, I found it very interesting. It doesn’t have too many actors. It’s just me and so, we thought we could take the risk ourselves and produce the film,” he told us. The film, however, has a host of stellar talents who have lent their voices.
Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier and Siddique along with several other actors are part of the film, albeit through their voices. Alone, which is scripted by Rajesh Jayaraman, marks Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas’ first collaboration in over a dozen years. Before Alone, the Narasimham and Aaraam Thampuran duo had previously worked in Red Chillies.
Mohanlal’s Alone is expected to hit theatres as Republic Day release on January 26. The actor will be following this up with another theatrical release – that of the 4K version of Spadikam – on February 9. The actor’s Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure is also aiming at a March 2023 release.
