Filmmaker Alphonse Puthren recently took to social media to take a dig at Central Bank employees. The director penned a note on his Facebook account about how the Reserve Bank of India does not provide any loans for filmmaking.
“Since Reserve Bank doesn’t provide bank loan for Cinema… I request all the reserve bank members and the staff to stop watching Cinema”, wrote Alphonse. The director then said that the employees of the bank, and the ministers in charge of the decision had ‘no right’ to watch any kind of cinema. “Never close the mouth of a cow and expect milk”, he wrote.
Calling it a ‘serious issue’ the director requested the Prime Minister to look into the same, concluding that it was ‘killing cinema’.

On the work front, Alphonse’s last directorial came in the form of Gold, which starred s Prithviraj Sukumaran, Nayanthara, Mallika Sukumaran, Shammi Thilakan, Lalu Alex, Baburaj, Ajmal Ameer, Shanthi Krishna, Jagadish, Krishna Sankar, Roshan Mathew, Vinay Forrt, and Saiju Kurup. The film, bankrolled under the banners of Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames, marked Alphonse’s return to the director’s chair after a period of almost seven years.
Part of the review for Gold on OTTplay reads “The highlight of Gold, right from its outset, is its making; Alphonse has carefully conceived and crafted each of the scenes of the film that blends with Rajesh Murugesan’s thumping music. In fact, some sequences, which feel so inane, beat with so much life and are almost pulsating”. The film is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film can be streamed on the platform in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil.
