The expectation of Bheeshma Parvam, directed by Amal Neerad and starring Mammootty, was sky high before its release. This fanfare was expected with the movie being their second collaboration after the 2007 action thriller Big B.
In an interview with Manorama Online, Amal Neerad talked about the megastar’s most famous dialogue from Big B, saying that it was Mammootty who made the entire difference to the line.
“His experience is a huge factor. Be it ‘Kochi pazhaya kochi alla’ or ‘Jao ennu parayanam’ those were not written expecting cheers in theatres. But the way he intones them makes all the difference,” said Amal Neerad.
The director revealed that they were planning to do Bilal, a sequel to Big B, but the sequel was indefinitely postponed due to the pandemic. This led the duo to plan a smaller movie, which paved the path for Bheeshma Parvam, which was completely filmed in Kochi.
Amal Neerad also adds that he intends to do more films with Mammootty to capture a lot of expressions and facets that the actor holds, and to unravel them on screen.
Co-written and directed by Amal Neerad, Bheeshma Parvam is a period gangster action drama that hit theatres on March 3. Also starring Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Shine Tom Chacko, Nadhiya Moidu, Dileesh Pothan, Nedumudi Venu and K. P. A. C. Lalitha, the movie has received glowing reviews.
The movie will reportedly start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in April, following its theatrical release. Having dominated the box office, the movie became one of Mammootty’s highest-grossing films and also set box office records in the GCC (Gulf Corporation Countries) circuit.
