The official teaser of Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming biopic Amaran, which was released yesterday (February 16), has been positively received by fans and viewers. Sivakarthikeyan plays officer Mukund Varadarajan in the biopic, who was a commissioned officer in the Indian Army's Rajput Regiment and was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his operation with the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion.

Officer Mukund’s wife, Indu Rebecca Varghese, has hailed director Rajkumar Periyasamy's film. She took to social media to pen an emotional note, calling her husband ‘Amaaran, an eternal one’. She wrote that although it's been a decade since his passing, it's now time to showcase his brave story on screen. “Amaran.. My eternal one..I have contemplated how to word this a thousand times, but as always I will simply let my heart speak. A decade has gone by and now it is time to eternalise his memory and act of patriotism on the silver screen”, Indu wrote.

She continued, “I can't deny that I am looking forward to the movie but this excitement will be forever mingled with indelible grief, infinite love and unfailing hope. Standing in strength and grief with our families and every soul who knows what it is to lose one so precious for a worthy cause. JAI HIND!!!”

In response, director Rajkumar Periyasamy thanked Indu Rebecca for trusting his team. “AMARAN Dear Indhu Rebecca Ma’am, Thank you for trusting me and our team with this huge responsibility! We are forever indebted to #MajorMukundVaradarajan sir, You and the family for the selfless service!(sic)”, the director wrote.

Director Periyasamy reveals why the film is called Amaran

Rajkumar Periyasamy revealed that Amaran was the first word that he had written for the screenplay, as its title. He also said that since the word meant ‘immortal', 'warrior' and 'godly’, it perfectly encapsulated the film’s theme. Check out his X post.

Interestingly, the Sivakarthikeyan project shares its title with the 1992 action gangster film starring Karthik in the lead role. The film was written, directed, and produced by K Rajeshwar. Rajkumar also credited Rajeshwar, Gautham Karthik and Karthik for helping him acquire the title. “At this moment I’d like to thank Director K.Rajeshwar sir for magnanimously agreeing to give this nostalgic title to us. Thank you sir. Means a lot to me! And thank you my dearest @Gautham_Karthik & @ArtisteKarthik sir for reaching out to him and vouching for me! Thanks a ton,” the director wrote.
