A few hours ago, the streaming platform dropped a riveting trailer for Lover, Stalker, Killer, and now another criminal case is spotting the attention of viewers as it inches closer to the release date in January. American Nightmare is rolling out in action to uncover the dark abduction and the criminal investigation on January 17 only on Netflix.

In the nearly 2-minute trailer, we witness a worried boyfriend who is calling 911 for help and undergoes strict interviews and crime investigations as he is spotted at the center of suspicion for the abrupt kidnapping and false crime reporting. The plot takes a sinister return when Denise Huskins, the lost girl returns to her house and her shocking reappearance stirs townspeople as well as the expert investigators. Both the partners are then accused of hoax kidnapping and staged home invasion.

American Nightmare is a dramatization of a real-life criminal case that rose to the spotlight due to its similarity with “Gone Girl” case, where a kidnapping victim was accused of a fake abduction, lies, and home invasion when she returned to her house nearly 2 days after the shocking incident. What sets this apart from the other documentaries is the unattended media bias and frenzy on the coverage with their own inputs and perspectives, sidelining the truth. The police investigators blamed the victims for white lies but were they correct or a huge mix-up?
