Amika Shail, who was last seen in Chattis Aur Maina, is now a part of Ullu’s web series Khunnas. The web series (translated as suffocation), is the story of violence and hate crime against women.

Amika spoke about the pertaining issue of violence in India. Stating that India is ‘a hotbed of revenge and hate crimes against women’, Amika shared that there is weak law enforcement. Stressing that women are not safe from the people they know, she shared, “Violence against women can be domestic, public, physical, emotional, or mental.” While being surprised that the women have to fear the people they know, Amika also clarified that most women don’t even report cases of violence and abuse due to some kind of fear instilled in them.

The actress shared that she agreed to work on Khunnas after learning about the subject. She also said, “I feel it is difficult but not impossible to prevent such hate crimes.” Amika hopes that the series can help reduce some, if not most crimes.

Amika, who is also a singer, never planned to become an actor. Talking to OTTplay exclusively, she had shared, “Singing is my soul and I will always be a singer first. I have started my journey in the industry as a singer. I have been a singer since my childhood and I have given so many years of my life learning and practicing to sing. Even my acting journey is credited to my singing skills only. A production house was looking for a singer who can also act. This was for a reality show. They approached me for the same and although I wasn't selected for that particular show but that gave me an idea that I should try my luck in acting as well.”

She added, “That is how acting happened to me. I had never dreamt or planned of becoming an actor at all. I believe it is all destined.”
