Actor Amit Saha was allegedly beaten by the local goons, allegedly from the ruling Party in West Bengal. His theatre group, Bidushak Natyamandali, was scheduled to perform at a theatre festival in Beleghata. The show has stopped. It is reported that Amit wanted help with arrangements for his show, and he was shown the boot.

Amit – a popular face in the Bengali film industry – who has worked in movies like Lootera, Bakita Byaktigoto, and Bhatbhati. He is also very much invested in his theatre group. According to a close source of Amit, the actor arranged a theatre festival at a playground in Beleghata after many days of effort and with the help of many people. The festival was scheduled to run for two days – December 24 and 25. However, some political leaders beat him and stopped the show on Friday, according to some reports. After the matter came to the public, a buzz was created on social media. Other theatre personalities condemned the state government. Amit’s colleagues, Tollywood actors, and directors expressed solidarity with him.

The actor and director Tathagata Mukherjee protested the incident by saying, “The theatre festival is stopped by brute force. Whose force? And why? How dare they? They can not stop something like this. Even if there is a political perspective involved, still they do not have any right to stop this.”

National Award-winning filmmaker Pradipta Bhattacharya condemned the incident, and said, “Amit Saha and Bidushak Natyamandali’s other colleagues were beaten and their festival was stopped. I protest and condemn.”

Sayan Ghosh, Amit’s co-actor in the series Birohi, said, “Shah Rukh Khan is opening the film festival, and a theatre worker is being beaten up by a leader from the ruling party – this is the present situation of our Bengal. I condemn this terror unleashed by the ruling party. I also want to know the reactions of those actors, directors, singers, and poets who had joined the ruling party for the sake of building a healthy environment for artistic exploration.” Debesh Chattopadhyay also condemned the incident.

Birohi 2, directed by Pradipta Bhattacharya, was released recently. Amit was hugely appreciated for his performance and his wall on social media was filled with praises. This feel-good atmosphere got devastated by Amit’s video, where he divulged the entire incident.
