When Amoolya Gowda returned to doing a TV serial after a brief break, she admits that she wasn’t entirely sure about taking up the role because it had grey shades, something she hadn’t done in her earlier shows. But then, the actress took it up as a challenge to play Ashwini, the hero’s sister on Nannarasi Radhe, which is streaming on Voot Select and comes on Colors Kannada too.

“The show has been going on since 2021, but my character was introduced only in May this year. Initially, I was sceptical about playing a role with a villainous shade, but then, she isn’t an out-and-out vamp. There is a glimmer of innocence too in her. So, I took it up and the response to it has been phenomenal. Earlier audiences would recognise me for my work on Agnisakshi, but now, when I am spotted outside, they call me Ashwini and are appreciative of my performance. There are fans of the show who identify me as the character and ask me why I do certain things on the show because they are clearly unhappy with her. I see even that as encouraging because that shows the impact the character has had on audiences. Overall, I am very happy with how my character has shaped up on Nannarasi Radhe,” says Amoolya.

The actress, who began her showbiz journey as a dubbing artiste, while she was pursuing a law degree, says that her dream was to become a criminal lawyer. But that dream got left behind when her career in dubbing and as an anchor on a local television channel took off. “I then got an opportunity to play a character on the serial Sundari, following which I did a cameo on Sharan sir’s Raambo 2. My next was Agnisakshi, which I joined after they’d completed 1,500 episodes, but I was then a part of till the very end in a major role,” says the actress.

Interestingly, Nannarasi Radhe is not the only project keeping Amoolya busy now. She’s just started a new weekly celeb talk show – Chittara Star Talk with Amoolya, which comes on YouTube.
