Ananya Panday on Gehraiyaan: We are not endorsing or glorifying infidelity

Ananya Panday is currently gearing up for one of her most-anticipated films, Gehraiyaan. Earlier, the actor had revealed that she hid for 20 minutes in the bathroom after learning director Shakun Batra wanted her for the noir romantic drama. The films are a sharp contrast to her previous light-hearted efforts, such as Student of the Year 2 and Pati, Patni Aur Woh. 

During an interaction, Ananya revealed that she realized right away that playing Tia, whose fiancé, Siddhant Chaturvedi, cheats on her with her cousin, would be difficult. The actor told Mid-Day that, as she is just 23 years of age, it's not fair to say that she has been through something similar.

Ananya thinks this is one of the most emotionally complex characters she has ever played. She went on to reveal that playing a part like this was cathartic for her since she had to draw a lot from herself. She needed to be able to access and explore her feelings. 

The Amazon Prime Video offering, which stars Deepika Padukone, Chaturvedi, Panday, and Dhairya Karwa, depicts the story of two couples who may not be as happy as they appear on the outside. Moreover, Batra foregoes the often-explored emotion of love in Hindi cinema in favour of a focus on adultery.

Panday claims that there was no question of promoting infidelity since the actors accepted the damaged personas. She shared that they all made the decision to observe rather than judge this connection. They are not supporting or applauding adultery just because it is mentioned in the film. 

Ananya added that they are just looking at four characters, their reactions, and their complexities. It was crucial for the actors not to pass judgment on the relationship. They are now going to leave it up to the audience, and are interested in hearing their thoughts.

Working with Batra and co-star Padukone, she crossed two items off her bucket list with this project. Ananya said that she always looked up to DP as an actor, but now she has begun to admire her for the person she is. Further praising the Chhapaak actor she concluded by saying that she ensures that no one is left out. 

Gehraiyaan is slated to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 11, 2022.
