Anaswara Rajan on Champion: Learning Telugu was a tough task, but I couldn't ask for more

Yet another Malayalam actress, Anaswara Rajan, is all set to make her Telugu debut with the film Champion, which hits the screens on December 25, 2025. The period drama features Roshan Meka in the lead role and is backed by the makers of Mahanati, Jathi Ratnalu, and Kalki 2898 AD.

Anaswara plays a village belle in the film and has a very important role. Speaking about her debut, Anaswara says that it is a dream-come-true moment for her to enter Telugu cinema. 

“Making my debut under a banner that has delivered such big hits makes me extremely happy. They have given me a massive launch pad, and I couldn’t ask for more,” says Anaswara.

Champion has been directed by Pradeep Advaitam, and Anaswara reveals that she initially faced difficulties learning the language. However, the director helped her immensely. 

“My character has a different arc in the film, and since it is a period drama, I had to deliver pure local dialogues from the past. It was quite a tough task, and I was extremely nervous on the sets. But my co-star Roshan and director Pradeep helped me a lot in getting my diction right,” she adds.

Anaswara plays the role of Chandrakala, a character deeply connected to the story and one of the key reasons behind the major twists in the film. She also mentions that Champion has an old-school charm and has been made on a lavish budget. The visuals, set work, VFX, and overall treatment are quite rich.

“While shooting for the film, I didn’t fully understand what I had gotten into. But once I watched a few rushes with the edit and VFX in place, I was taken aback. Champion is a great cinematic experience that brings together sports, patriotism, and romance,” concludes Anaswara Rajan.

For Roshan Meka, Champion is a do-or-die film that needs to succeed at any cost, as his career is at stake. For Anaswara Rajan, a dream debut is all set to unfold, and she eagerly awaits the response from Telugu audiences. 

Mickey J. Meyer has composed the music for the film, which will hit the screens alongside Shambhala and Dhandoraa, both of which are also notable releases.
