On a special night, all of Sex and the City will be reunited once more. According to Variety's sources, Kim Cattrall will return as Samantha Jones in the Season 2 finale of And Just Like That, Max's Resurrection of HBO's Sex and the City. However, her cameo will be brief. The actor reportedly filmed her scenes for And Just Like That on March 22 in New York City without ever seeing or communicating with series actors like Sarah Jessica Parker or showrunner Michael Patrick King.

Samantha, who has relocated to London for the series, will speak with Sarah's Carrie Bradshaw over the phone. In the season one conclusion of And Just Like That, Carrie and Samantha, who had been estranged, rekindled their friendship over text messages and made plans to meet in person.

While Patricia Field has not been working on And Just Like That, she did dress Samantha for her role. Kim's representative did not return a call seeking comment from the entertainment portal. Max did not immediately provide a comment after being asked. For the time being, her cameo as Samantha will not represent the start of a new arc for the character.

Fans of Sex and the City, however, will be ecstatic to see Samantha in any capacity because they have been waiting years to see the adored, powerful publicist who put the "sex" in the revolutionary series, which aired for six seasons on HBO from 1998 to 2004 and gave rise to two films.

After reading the script for the third film, Kim decided to end her tenure as Samantha and made the decision public in 2016. She told Variety in 2022 that she would have preferred for all of them to have some kind of event to warrant a third film. That didn't take place.

As she decided to distance herself from Samantha, Sarah and she had a very public falling out. Kim wasn't asked back to play Samantha when Michael and Sarah revived Sex and the City as a new series for what was then HBO Max in 2021, and instead, the show introduced new characters named Carrie, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristen Davis), to mixed reviews.

When asked about the possibility of Kim reprising her role as Samantha last year, they told the press that they simply couldn't see it happening. Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, approached Kim about reprising her role as Samantha during the filming of the second season of And Just Like That in New York City this past winter, and she ultimately agreed to do so.

Kim's moment as Samantha will not show until August, after the second season premiere of And Just Like That on June 22.
