Ayushmann Khurrana is never one to shy away from tackling some sensitive and important issues through his films, and Anek seems to be another example. The upcoming film will see Khurrana channel his inner action hero, playing an undercover cop who finds himself in a tumultuous situation. As promised, the makers have unveiled the film’s trailer today.

The trailer starts with a voiceover by Khurrana, as his character comes into view amidst a foggy background. He talks about how his job deals with protecting the country, and he works in the North Eastern part of the country. The trailer reveals that the film, a political thriller, will be based on the conflicts in North East India. Khurrana’s character is an undercover cop who does not shy away from asking important questions. At one point he questions just how a person stops from being labelled a ‘North Indian’ or ‘South Indian’, and becomes just an ‘Indian’. The trailer also gives glimpses into some high octane action scenes, which are not for the faint hearted.

The upcoming film sees Khurrana join hands with Anubhav Sinha yet again. The filmmaker, who has written and directed Anek, had previously collaborated with Khurrana on the 2019 film, Article 15. Sinha has written Anek’s screenplay along with Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani. He has also produced the film along with Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar.

Khurrana had earlier opened up about his character, named Joshua. The actor had revealed that his character was both intelligent as well as ‘street smart’. A man who knows his way around people, Joshua was skilled not only in physically battling ‘evil’ people, but mentally fending them off as well.

Anek will be released in theatres on May 27.
