Anil Kapoor celebrates 43 years of his Kannada film debut with special nod to industry

On January 7, 1983, actor Anil Kapoor made his Kannada movie debut with Pallavi Anu Pallavi, much before he found a firm footing in Hindi cinema. A romantic drama, the film was the directorial debut of Mani Ratnam, with both director and actor then never returning to the industry that gave them that initial boost. Cut to 43 years later, Anil fondly remembered his Kannada debut and remarked that it’s been incredible to see the industry booming and redefining Indian cinema on the global stage.

The veteran actor took to social media and wrote, “43 years ago, I took my first step into the Kannada film industry. From then to now, it’s incredible to see how Kannada cinema is booming and redefining Indian cinema globally.” He then added a special mention for filmmakers Prashant Neel and Rishab Shetty and actor Yash, the teams behind films like KGF and Kantara for raising the bar of Kannada cinema. As a parting shot, Anil wrote that he hoped that Pallavi Anu Pallavi will not remain his only association with the “amazing industry”.

Rishab was quick to respond, stating that Pallavi Anu Pallavi remains one of his all-time favourite films. He wrote, “We’re so proud of you, Sir! Your journey began here, and today you stand as a true legend of Indian cinema. It was an absolute honor to meet you and have such a wonderful conversation.”

Given the timing of Anil’s post, several netizens wondered if it was a hint that he would soon be back in Kannada cinema, what with the teaser of Yash’s next, Toxic, expected on January 8. “Is this a hint that we can see you in the Toxic teaser?” asked one netizen, while another said that Anil’s probably playing Yash’s father.
