Anil Kapoor is currently awaiting the release of his film Thar, which will see him share the screen with his son, Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor. Anil recently opened up about his role in the upcoming thriller, saying that there were quite a few things about his character that he could relate to.

The veteran character essays the role of sub-inspector Surekha Singh in the film. In conversation with Mid-Day, the veteran actor said that one of the first things that struck him quite odd about the character was the name, which he felt sounded like that of a woman’s. He had later realised that Surekha was a common name among men in Rajasthan, where the film’s story takes place.

Opening up about his character, Anil said that Surekha was someone who has been unable to move up in the hierarchy, despite doing his job well for several years. He felt ‘stuck’ as even though on being at the brink of retirement, he had several good years left in him. The actor said that he could relate to this feeling of his character, as he felt that acting, like a lot of professions was one that was dictated by an ‘ageist society’. “They tell you when it’s time to hang up your boots. I could relate to the character, and get into his soul,” he added.

The actor also said that he felt ‘fortunate’ that filmmakers still wanted them to be a part of projects.

In addition to Anil and Harsh Varrdhan, the upcoming film also features Fatima Sana Shaikh, Satish Kaushik, Mukti Mohan and Mandana Karimi in key roles. Raj Singh Chaudhary has written and directed the film, with Anurag Kashyap co-writing some of the dialogues in the film. The upcoming film is produced under the banner of Anil Kapoor Films and Communication Network.

Thar will be available to stream on Netflix from May 6, 2022.
