Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga's latest movie Animal has been caught in the vortex of never-ending debates. The film has been receiving a lot of flak for its portrayal of mistreatment towards female characters. As discussions surrounding the film persist, intriguing connections have surfaced.
A scene from the 2010 Malayalam movie Nayakan, helmed by maverick filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery is going viral on social media in the wake of the massive commercial success of Animal. The highlighted moment is from the climax fight scene; Indrajith Sukumaran's Varadanunni wearing Kathakali make-up takes on a bunch of masked rivals in a red-painted corridor.
The scenes share uncanny similarities with the pre-interval fight sequence in Animal. In the said scene, Ranbir Kapoor's Ranvijay Singh singlehandedly slaughters an army of mask-wearing, axe-wielding rivals with his cousins singing Arjan Vailly.
At first many believed that this could be Sandeep's homage to the hallway fight scene in the Korean classic Oldboy (2003). Now, fans wonder whether Sandeep took any additional inspiration from Lijo's imagination from Nayakan.
The Malayalam movie scene is circulating online, featuring replaced background music with Arjan Vailly.

Even though Animal is becoming one of the biggest hits in the history of the Hindi film industry, it has caused massive outrage across the country. The film is panned for its blatant misogyny and excessive violence.
In a scene, Ranbir's Ranvijay Singh asks Tripti Dimri's Zoya to lick his shoes to prove her love for him. It was one of the several controversial scenes that have incensed viewers.
However, all the controversies are helping to drive up the film's ticket sales. In 11 days, Animal has earned more than Rs 735 crore in its global ticket sales.
