Ayushmann Khurrana and Jaideep Ahlawat starrer An Action Hero opened to positive reviews after releasing on December 2. However, it hasn't been able to secure a decent run at the box office despite that.
Ayushmann Khurrana had three films come out this year: Anek, Doctor G, and An Action Hero, which came out on 2nd December. He and Jaideep Ahlawat can be seen in action avatars in this film. The movie had a relatively poor start at the box office, despite the impactful trailer being a major hit with the critics and the audience. The box office collections then remained on the lower side despite good word of mouth.
Recently, in an interview with News Nine, the director of the film, Anirudh Iyer, spoke about An Action Hero not performing well in theatres. When asked if he believes it has succumbed to the same prejudice towards Bollywood that it seeks to correct? He told the publication, "I don't think there was any huge negativity around the film, at least none that I know of, so I wouldn't call it a bias. It could be me but I have mostly read good reviews and sweet tweets. I don't think I'll find closure on this for a long time."
As we all know that Ayushmann Khurrana makes social comedies, but only Anirudh Iyer, after Sriram Raghavan, have portrayed him as a hero with a faulty notion of redemption. So when asked what did he picture Maanav to be like? He revealed that for him, Maanav has always had flaws—both in terms of who he is as a person and how others see him. "We all have been exposed to the idea that a public figure needs to bear it all because in the end, they derive huge benefits from the same public image, and that probably intrigued me to explore a superstar's life, caught in a situation when he had no choice but to be real and human; of course the flaws came out naturally."
Meanwhile, An Action Film is Ayushmann Khurrana's first film that features him in a wholly action-oriented role. Anirudh Iyer has directed the film. In the film, Ayushmaan plays Manav, a well-known actor who is pursuing Jaideep Ahlawat, a notorious thug. The movie's producers are Anand L. Rai and Bhushan Kumar.
On the work front, Ayushmann will be next seen in comedy film Dream Girl 2. Ananya Panday, Annu Kapoor, Vijay Raaz, Paresh Rawal, and Manoj Joshi are few of his co-stars.
