Produced by AR Murugadoss, Journey was directed by M Saravanan
Journey, the Telugu dubbed version of filmmaker AR Murugadoss’ home production Engaeyum Eppothum, directed by M Saravanan, was one of the many surprise hits in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in 2011 and drew huge crowds to theatres despite limited publicity. The film featured several popular faces including Jai, Anjali, Sharwanand and Ananya in key roles.
Nearly 13 years after its theatrical release in Telugu and after amassing record TRPs during repeated television telecasts, the film is gearing up to hit screens again. A Supriya of Lakshmi Narasimha Movies bagged the release rights in Telugu states for a decent price recently. The makers are aiming to release the film in February 2024, cashing in on the Valentine’s Day weekend.
The film tells the story of multiple passengers who board two buses that ram into one another, exploring their love stories, conflicts. While Ananya comes to Hyderabad for a job interview and is unfamiliar with the city, Sharwanand comes to her rescue and gradually falls in love with her. The other tale centres on an introverted Jai and an opinionated nurse, played by Anjali.
The multi-starrer is widely remembered for its excellent, riveting screenplay, which makes room for tension, romance, humour and drama, with multiple subplots that add appeal to the core premise. C Sathya scored the music for the film produced by AR Murugadoss under AR Murugadoss Productions in association with Fox Star Studios (for a budget of Rs 5 crore).
Other actors in Journey include Vatsan Chakravarthy, Vindodhini Vaidyanathan, Ravi, Mithun, Priya Prince and others. Velraj cranked the camera for the film which was edited by Kishore Te. The film has a runtime of over 140 minutes and can also be watched on Youtube and two OTT platforms - Jio Cinema and Sun NXT.
