Ankur Rathee changed his look for Undekhi 3 to fit into the character the SonyLIV show had to offer him. Daman is someone who is the least criminal-minded in all of the Atwal family. However, he ends up committing a big crime on the show. Nonetheless, Ankur explains that it is Daman who ends up being a ‘lens to the Atwal family’s crimes.’ The actor further wishes that his character had more spine on the show.

Siddharth Sengupta’s words stuck with Ankur

Back when he was first introduced to Daman, Siddharth Sengupta told Ankur, “Daman is the lens through which the audience views the violent world of Undekhi.” The actor was intrigued by the tension and conflict within the family and around them.

Daman, not exactly a lens in season 3

The friction begins in Undekhi season 3. Daman is no longer the Daman from season 1. He has joined the business and committed a crime. Daman has killed Samarth (to prove his love for Teji), which is almost like his brand-new welcome to the family of murderers (even if he was with them since forever, watching them from the sidelines all the time and disagreeing or rather, not interfering in their matters more than required). Ankur explains his character to Free Press Journal as, “Daman is at a breaking point after realising the extent of Teji’s betrayal. This friction inside him makes Daman unpredictable.” By the end of the show, Daman and Teji had a fallout and could be potentially headed for a divorce (or the twist will not let them get separated, yet to figure).

Ankur wants to take none of Daman in real life

“I wish Daman had more of a spine. I often find myself very frustrated with him,” Ankur shares, hinting that he is nothing like Daman in real life. The actor further explains that as a person, he wishes Daman would choose a side – either take over all of the business or burn it all down. Ankur further notes that Daman seeking others’ approval is a recipe for his unhappiness and in season 3, violence.
