Netflix’s upcoming Malayalam anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short stories already has a star cast that rivals Mani Ratnam’s Navarasa. The latest segment from the anthology to go on floors is helmed by director Rathish Ambat and has Indrajith Sukumaran, Aparna Balamurali and Ann Augustine in lead roles.
The segment titled Kadalkaattu will go on floors in Vadakkara on Wednesday, according to a report on Kerala Kaumudi, with other locations being Kannur and Thalassery. The venture will mark the comeback of Artist and Elsamma Enna Aankutty actress Ann Augustine, who was last seen in Solo in 2017.
Rathish, who had helmed Kammarasambhavam, will be teaming up with Indrajith for the second time after the yet-to-be-released Theerpu. The makers of the film are also reportedly in discussions for an OTT release.
Meanwhile, the upcoming Netflix anthology, which will reportedly release later this year, has 10 movies directed by filmmakers who have not worked with MT Vasudevan’s scripts earlier. Priyadarshan has two segments – one featuring Biju Menon and another with Mohanlal. Santosh Sivan has completed his featurette that has Siddique in the lead, and Jayaraj’s segment based on Swargam Thurakunna Samayam has Indrans, Renji Panicker, Nedumudi Venu and Surabhi Lakshmi and Kailash as part of the cast.
Jallikattu director Lijo Jose Pellissery is set to direct Mammootty for a segment. The duo is currently shooting for another film titled Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakam in Tamil Nadu. Asif Ali and Madhoo had teamed up for Ashwathy Vasudevan Nair’s featurette based on the short story Vilpana.
It’s rumoured that two more segments are in the works that will have Fahadh Faasil and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the leads.
