Anna Kendrick will star in Lionsgate’s latest all-women psychological thriller Alice, Darling.
The Mary Nighy debut directorial will also feature Wunmi Mosaku (known for his role in Loki), Kaniehtiio Horn (known for Letterkenny), and Charlie Carrick (known for Reign, Molly Maxwell, and Trench 11) as the cast.
The plot, described as a story of ‘female resilience and empowerment’ revolves around Alice, a woman (Anna Kendrick) who is keeping secrets about her boyfriend from her two best friends. Things go from bad to worse and the secrets are out when a local girl disappears and her boyfriend appears without any intimation. Charlie Carrick will play Kendrick’s boyfriend in the film. Mosaku and Horn will play her best friends. Alanna Francis has written the screenplay for the film. While praising the cast and director of the film, Nighy has described it as a ‘subtle, nuanced story about coercion and control.’
This is the second time Kendrick is starring in a psychological thriller after the 2018 thriller A Simple Favor, which was bankrolled by the same banner. But this project marks her first as an executive producer for the film alongside Sam Tipper-Hale, who is also the executive producer. Previously, she has been the executive producer for many TV shows and shorts such as HBO Max’s Love Life, Human Discoveries, etc. Katie Bird Nolan, Lindsay Tapscott, Christina Piovesan, and Noah Segal are the co-producers.
Lauren Bixby VP, Acquisitions and Co-Productions at Lionsgate termed the film as a ‘captivating psychological thriller with three women at the centre, while also lauding the chemistry between Kendrick, Mosaku, and Horn as the three best friends.
The producers at Babe Nation Films said that they want to back female stories with care and authenticity. The film is being shot with the support of Ontario Creates and Urban Post. Elevation Pictures will handle the film’s distribution in Canada. The release date for the film is not known yet.
