Predictable, cliched, routine are the words that one often tends to hear while reading through a description about a mainstream Telugu film bathed in familiarity. However, stereotypes are not always bad for cinema, they bring more relatability to a story and there’s a minimum-guarantee factor you can’t ignore with the audience connect. This is exactly what director Nandini Reddy plans to do with Anni Manchi Sakunamule as well.
Dulquer Salmaan unveiled the teaser of the upcoming family drama starring Santosh Soban, Malvika Nair yesterday, while addressing it as a ‘cool breeze for this summer’. The story is set amidst a serene hill station where a patriarch owns a tea estate and a bakery lives with his joint family and wants the younger lot to takeover the business. Meanwhile, a young girl Arya insists on not overspending until they repay their home loan.
The protagonists meet at a grand wedding, the backdrop shifts to an international location while offering a glimpse of other characters and a tense backstory. The liveliness in the ambience is the primary USP of this teaser and one can notice the care with which it has been edited and filmed. Director Nandini Reddy is returning with a theatrical release four years after her superhit, Samantha’s Oh Baby.
Rajendra Prasad, Rao Ramesh, Naresh, Gauthami, Sowcar Janaki, Vasuki, Vennela Kishore, Ramya Subramanian, Anju Alva Naik, Oorvasi, Ashwin Kumar form the supporting cast of the film produced by Priyanka Dutt under Swapna Cinema and Mitra Vinda Movies. Sunny Kurapati and Richard Prasad are the cinematographers for the drama which has music by Mickey J Meyer and is edited by Junaid.
On the whole, Anni Manchi Sakunamule looks refreshing and Nandini Reddy’s grasp over the genre is quite evident in the glimpse. With a capable lead pair and a strong supporting cast, this looks like a safe bet in theatres. The film hits screens on May 18.
